Pastor Alice True email:pastor@wszumc.com Rev. Alice True came to Zion UMC in July of 2010. She has been in ministry for 20 years .
Zion is her 4th appointment. She has a deep love for our Lord and desires to help those who do not know God’s love to realize the gift that God has given them. Alice is very committed to the community of West Salem. Since coming to Zion, she has become the Chaplain to the fire department, is active in the West Salem Development Association, and the Edwards County Ministerial Alliance.
Alice is interested in the well-being of the youth in the community. She started a Coffee House at the church on Saturday evenings so the youth in West Salem would have a safe place to hang out. She also teaches the College Age Sunday School Class.
Alice was called into the ministry at age16 but did not answer the call until the age of 36. Because it was second career she attended Course of Study at Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, MO. She has an Associate’s Degree from Kaskaskia College and a Bachelors Degree from McKendree College. In 1997 Alice was ordained an Associate Member of the Illinois Great Rivers Conference.
Alice is married to Rick, who is an over the road truck driver who owns his own truck. They have 2 sons and 4 grandchildren. Karen Hunt-Administrative Assistant Email:office@wszumc.com Karen has been administrative assistant at Zion UMC for 36 years. She has worked with five ministers during those years. They have each had their own special gifts and style and she has enjoyed working with each one. Karen's family moved to a farm east of West Salem when she was 5 years old so she attended Edwards County schools. Karen and her husband, Bill, were the first couple to be married at the new Zion United Methodist Church, which was built in 1964. After 40 years of marriage, Karen lost her husband to cancer in December 2005. Her family keeps her very busy and somewhat sane. She has 2 daughters, both living in West Salem. She also has 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons. She is very family oriented and spends hours with her grandchildren. She still lives in the home that she shared with her husband right outside West Salem. Karen has many hobbies: genealogy, reading, quilting, traveling. And the one she enjoys most: American History - the 1800's. She has quite an extensive library of Civil War books and has visited over twenty Civil War national military parks. |
